The first step is to return to the traditional desktop. You can do this by either pressing the Start button on the keyboard on click the desktop tile on the Metro interface.

Once on the desktop open your web browser. In this case we are using Internet Explorer.

In your browser go to the website www.iobit.com

From the top menu select products then go down to Start Menu 8 for Windows 8.

Click the green download button.

You will then be taken to an external site. Click the green Download Now button.

After a few seconds you will be prompted what you want to do with the file. Click the Run button.

In most cases you will get a security warning. Click Yes to continue.

The installer will then start. Click Next to start the installation process.

Accept the license agreement.

Accept the default install location.

Start Menu 9 will then install. Please wait for it to complete and then go to the next step.

In most cases you are going to want to uncheck Install Advanced SystemCare Ultimate and then click the Finish button.

After Start Menu 8 is installed you will be presented with the settings screen. The main options to look at are Run at Windows Startup which should be ticked. You then have the option of going straight to the traditional desktop and skip the Metro screen when your computer first boots.
Once you have changed your options click the OK button to close the settings window.

The start menu will now appear in the bottom left hand corner of the taskbar where it appears by default in previous Windows. You can now use it as you would have in previous Windows versions to access Programs, Settings and Documents.
