Skip Microsoft Account Screen on Windows 8 Setup

When you first turn on your new Windows 8 computer you are required to run through a basic setup wizard. As part of this process it will ask you to log in with your Microsoft Account. This how to shows you how to skip this step and use a local account which you would be use to from previous version. Using a Microsoft account to login does provide some benefits such as syncing bookmarks however not all users wish for Microsoft to have access to that information.

Hello Peter from My Tech Tradie. When you first start your new Windows 8 computer you will need to run through a basic setup wizard. As part of this process you will be asked to sign in to your Microsoft Account. In this video I show you how to skip this step. If you currently have a Hotmail or Outlook.com email address your email and password is what this wizard is asking for. From then on you sign into your computer using this account. Using a Microsoft account allows you sync a few things such as bookmarks. We are going skip this step and create a local account which is the same as every previous version of Windows. Down the bottom of the page is the text Sign in without a Microsoft Account. Click this to continue. If you just have the Create a new account your computer is running Windows 8.1 continue watching the video and we show how to skip this step. Click the Local account button. It will then ask you for a Username of your choosing and a password which is optional. Once entered click Finish. Your computer will take a few minutes to finish installing then you will be logged in as the new user your just created. If you didn't have the Sign in without a Microsoft Account button then you are running Windows 8.1 which hides the Sign in without a Microsoft account link. Down the bottom click the Create a new account link. Down the bottom of the next page click the Sign in without a Microsoft account link. Now the steps are the same as before.
